At Light the Way Counseling, we value the unique stories of each individual and family. We understand that your journey is unique, and we are here to help. We appreciate the opportunity to journey with you, knowing that our personalized approach can make a difference.

At some point, we are asked the big question ---- Do you take my insurance? Yes, we do if you have out-of-network benefits. We are private pay but will work with you if you use your out-of-network benefits. We are not contracted with any insurance companies.

At Light the Way, we understand that finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. Add in the insurance coverage piece, and it becomes very overwhelming. Mental health and relationship issues are important, and financial concerns should never hinder receiving care. This is why we want to share our decision to remain out of network with insurance and how it allows us to provide the most compassionate, personalized care for you and your family.

Prioritizing Your Care Over Insurance Restrictions

When it comes to mental health, one size doesn’t fit all. Insurance companies often impose restrictions on the number of sessions, types of therapy, or treatments covered. These limitations can prevent you from receiving care tailored to your unique needs. By staying out of network, we can focus on what matters most—your well-being. Our therapists can create individualized treatment plans without being restricted by what insurance deems necessary or reimbursable, giving you the freedom and control to receive the care you need.

When contracted with an insurance company, we must meet their requirements. The problem is that they don’t know you and your story. When out-of-network, we work with you, and what is best for you.

Insurance Requires A Mental Health Diagnosis

Whether we are in network or out, when an insurance claim is made, it will require a mental health diagnosis and medical necessity. The diagnosis becomes part of your permanent health recordIt’s helpful to consider this before using your insurance.

More Time for What Matters: You

At Light the Way, we believe in quality over quantity. We understand that every client deserves our full attention during and outside sessions. By remaining out of network, we can dedicate time to preparation and research and ensure your therapy experience is significant and transformative. Our therapists are committed to your well-being and are here to support you every step of the way, providing you with a sense of security and confidence in our services.

Research shows that therapists out of network spend an average of 20% more time per client than in-network providers. Some therapists who contract with insurance companies must fill their practices to the point that it looks like an assembly line. It’s not because they don’t care; they do, but the reimbursement rates don’t come close to paying therapists what they need.

Flexibility in Treatment Options

Traditional insurance policies often don’t cover innovative or alternative forms of therapy. Many of our clients, especially children and teens dealing with anxiety, depression, or trauma, benefit from art therapy and other creative therapeutic approaches. Unfortunately, these methods are rarely covered by insurance. By being out of network, we can offer a wide variety of therapies designed to meet the unique needs of every client—without worrying about whether insurance will approve them.

Reducing the Administrative Burden

Filing claims, handling paperwork, calling insurance companies, and waiting for reimbursements take time and resources away from our vital function—helping you heal. By cutting down on the administrative complexities of insurance, we can prioritize care over paperwork. This allows us to be more available for you and keeps the focus where it should be: on delivering the best possible therapeutic experience.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

We recognize that finances can be a concern, so we’ve partnered with Open Path Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable therapy options. Through this partnership, we can offer high-quality, reduced-fee therapy to those who need it, ensuring that financial barriers don’t prevent you from receiving care.

Your Mental Health Matters

At Light the Way, our priority is always you. Our decision to remain out-of-network with insurance is rooted in a deep commitment to providing personalized, compassionate care that addresses your needs. We believe that insurance policies should never limit mental health, and we are here to help you on your journey to healing—at your own pace, with the treatments that work best for you.
